Our continuing coverage of Media Day 2013 continues with the power forwards. One is a 13-year veteran who doesn’t jump high, doesn’t run fast and likes to knock people around in the paint. The other is a young, wiry athletic freak who can fly down the court on his way to flying to the rim. Two players, two different styles, but the Grizzlies hope that what two-time All-Star Zach Randolph and his clear backup (and possible heir) Ed Davis can do will pay huge dividends this season.

First up, Zach Randolph. For some freakish reason, as I remember it, the Grizzlies trotted out a number of players I wanted to talk to, Z-Bo being one of them. I wasn’t of a mind to fight the media crowd, so I focused on talking to Kosta Koufos and Quincy Pondexter instead, assuming I’d have a few minutes to talk to Zach once the crowd dissipated. Well, I was right. I got exactly a couple of minutes  with Zach. But what don’t we know about this guy? He’s sunny, he’s in love with Memphis, and Memphis is in love with him.

Ed Davis, I took a little more time with. And he addresses the offseason controversy between he and former Grizz coach Lionel Hollins. He also hopes that on nights when Zach or Marc “don’t have it,” that he can bring that spark.

Fans it’s a very deep team. Tomorrow, we look at the centers, Marc Gasol and Kosta Koufos. Enjoy!
