Shane Battier may be the lone Grizz alum who fans might not mind hearing about from time to time, even though he is now with the villainous Miami Heat. I’m sure we’ll be loading up on Griz-centric stuff now that Training Camp is under way, but indulge us for a few minutes with this post by ESPN’s Kevin Arnovitz.

What made me want to post it here was not so much that Arnovitz wrote it; he’s a writer, that’s what we do. It’s that Shane tweeted it, and thus essentially signed off on it as something of a treatise on why he chose Miami.

To quote:

When you choose a workplace, you’re also choosing a boss — and there isn’t a better fit in the NBA for Battier than Spoelstra. It’s not just the common appreciation for analytics and precision, particularly on the defensive end. Both men are studious, cerebral and all business. Spoelstra has had players who appreciate his obsessive commitment to schematic detail, but none like Battier.

I’m going to miss having that precision on Beale St. Good luck, Shane. Until we meet in The Finals . . . .
