According to multiple sources, the Memphis Grizzlies prospective ownership group headed by California billionaire Robert Pera has gained a few more notable names. Memphis native Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, along with his wife, Ashley (another Memphian), have joined forces with Pera, Pitt Hyde, Staley Cates, Justin Timberlake, Elliot Perry, and Harold Ford, Jr. in the bid to buy the team from current owner, Michael Heisley.
The additions of Timberlake, Manning, and Hardaway help to bolster the Grizzlies appeal and visibility on a national scale, if not also a global one. Even though all of them have local ties of one sort or another, they also all possess serious star power. This level of high profile association with the franchise can only help the club. There is literally no downside to having these guys involved with the team, even if their actual ownership percentage is relatively miniscule. Things are definitely looking up in the Bluff City.
