Earlier today, NBA Commissioner David Stern told everyone that it was not economically feasible for the NBA to expand into Europe for the foreseeable future. Given that I’ve been saying that for years, I’m not really shocked that he arrived at that conclusion — just surprised that he willingly vocalized it for once. As Chris Sheridan points out, there are just too many uncertainties and too few NBA-ready stadiums for something like that to work at the present time. I’m still of the opinion that further North American expansion makes a lot more sense. The notion that the NBA is returning to Seattle soon is a step in the right direction. I still believe Vancouver deserves another shot, too.
In Grizz-related news, SLAM Online has been ranking their Top 50 NBA players. Unless something shocking occurs, they finished with the Boys from Beale Street when they ranked Rudy Gay at #25. This follows them slotting Marc Gasol at #29 and Zach Randolph at #36. For those of you scoring at home, that’s three Grizzlies players in the top 36 of the league. Pretty heady stuff.
The Commercial Appeal tweeted that Wayne Ellington suffered a contusion on his right knee and is day to day after colliding with Jerome Jordan and falling. Doesn’t sound like anything serious, but we’ll keep you updated as more information become available.
