Memphis was pleased to see Zach Randolph back on the court logging serious minutes but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to jump back into the starting lineup just yet. However Z-Bo did put up an impressive statistical line in his first game back (25 points, 9 rebounds).
However Memphis lost the game to the lowly Toronto Raptors as Jerryd Bayless (28 point, 9 assists and 6 rebounds) had a huge game. The Grizzlies back-court struggled with Conley, Allen and Mayo combined for a 4-18 shooting night. The defeat gave the Grizzlies two straight home overtime losses as Memphis fell to 5th in the Western Conference.
The Grizzlies need to get back on the winning path in the worst way. The Grizzlies are now in a virtual tie with Dallas for 5th place in the conference and can’t afford any more losses especially at home.
Washington shook up their roster in a big way at the trade deadline dealing JaVale McGee and Nick Young out and getting Nene back in return. The moves give PG John Wall total control of the team and he didn’t respond well in the first game. His 14 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds masked his 9 turnovers in a loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Wall joined Jason Kidd as the quickest players to reach 900 assists in their career (111 games).
Trevor Booker has averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds since the All-Star break. That type of production will be necessary against the Grizzlies front line that has more height and weight than the Wizards. Jordan Crawford has shown potential at shooting guard but struggles defensively at times.
Prediction: Memphis regains their winning ways.
