A rumor on Twitter is that Mo Speights has resigned with the Memphis Grizzlies.
And Mo Speights has started the rumor himself. Tweeting with Tony Allen Speights apparently said that he is “I am going back to #GrizzNation. This year. Yessir!” Speights went on to tweet that “I had many places to go!!! But why would I want to leave?”
Now Twitter is notorious for misinformed stories and it needs to be pointed out that the Grizzlies have not confirmed this report but for the fans of Speights and the Grizzlies. However this was also tweeted by Tony Allen’s account which adds some credence to the rumor. It does need to be pointed out that the Grizzlies are not reporting this and 3 Shades of Blue has been unable to confirm the report.
rumors are swirling that the new contract is for 2 years and $7-8 million total. That would basically mean the Grizzlies have spent over half the money they have under the luxury tax level to bring back Speights. Speights is 6-10 and capable of playing both Center and Power Forward giving the Grizzlies size off the bench behind Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
Speights opened last season deeply rooted on the bench in Philadelphia. However, with the injuries to Zach Randolph’s knee on New Year’s Day and Darrell Arthur in training camp, the Grizzlies needed someone immediately to salvage a season. Speights came in and immediately made an impact on the team. Speights’ conditioning had been questioned in Philadelphia but with consistent minutes in Memphis became a consistent performer for the Grizzlies averaging 8.8 ppg and 6.2 rpg in just 22.4 minutes for the Grizzlies.
If the rumors are true regarding Speights agreeing to a contract with the Grizzlies it puts into question how much money the Grizzlies would be willing to spend on resigning Darrell Arthur and Hamed Haddadi.
