Just a few things that seem to have slipped through the cracks this week.

SLAM Magazine had a great article spotlighting Mike Conley. Definitely a must-read.

The Commercial Appeal is reporting that prospective owner Robert Pera is actively seeking local ownership in his bid to purchase the Memphis Grizzlies. Could this signal a strong desire on his part to keep them in the Bluff City for the foreseeable future?

Grizzlies and Grizzlies Charitable Foundation Named Sports Team of the Year
On Wednesday at a ceremony in London, Englad, the Memphis Grizzlies were honored as the Sports Team of the Year as part of the Beyond Sports Awards 2012. To make sure you understand the magnitude of this award, note that this is for the sports organization that does the most in terms of community work and charitable contributions….not just in the NBA or even in America, but for the entire planet. The Grizzlies were joined by the Boston Celtics, Queens Park Rangers Football Club, Tottenham Hotspur and RIHP NTH QLD Rubies as finalists in the category.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be named the Sport Team of the Year for this year’s Beyond Sports Awards. This year, we presented the combined work of the Grizzlies Foundation and the Memphis Grizzlies Community Investment efforts, both which operate initiatives and outreach to advance education and youth development in the Memphis region,” said Jenny Koltnow, Executive Director of Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation. “We’re grateful to our Grizzlies colleagues and partners throughout Memphis who’ve helped us achieve this milestone.”

“To be recognized today by Beyond Sport as the Sport Team of the Year for 2012 for our community work in Memphis marks one of the proudest days I have had as the owner of the Memphis Grizzlies,” Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley explained. “This award is a culmination of the hard work and dedication of our local ownership group, along with our team of players, coaches and front office staff, and I cannot thank them enough. Since Day one in Memphis, our goal as a franchise has been to become an integral part of this Memphis community and this award shows that we are having an impact.”

This also marks the second time that the Grizzlies have led the NBA in marketing/community efforts.

Unbelievable article on Mike. Didn’t know about the sports psychologist, definitely explains a lot.
