(Covers updated) Not so amazing but 3 wins in a row and over the Bulls and Knicks saw a good jump in the rankings for the Grizzlies [the level of jump indicated for each]. But, 4 of the rankings were done before the Griz beat the Bulls and it is reflected by the jump level. Who gets the credit for Memphis’ success? Britt Robson @ SI gives kudos to the coach, “Hollins has help transform the Grizzlies into one of the NBA’s grittiest and most relentless teams — the sort of opponent nobody wants to play . . .” Marc Stein gives kudos to his name sake, Marc Gasol for his rebounding.
If the Grizzlies take care of business they should win their next 4 games before next weeks rankings are released. They play @ New Orleans, @ Detroit, Sacramento (H), @ Golden State, all teams ranked lower. We could see another jump of a couple of spots. Lets get back into the top 10 and in the thick of the playoff picture.
Average ranking for the week is 15.77 +3 jump from last week.

Grizzlies strength of schedule, according to Hollinger is number 1. His top ranked team, Philly, is by far the worst amongst top 15 teams.
Good observation Alex. Last week (1-15) they had the 6th hardest schedule and Jeff Sagarin rated their schedule as the 8th hardest. Now Sagarin has them as the 3rd hardest schedule with the top 12 teams having some of the easiest (15th or higher) schedules. Only the Heat and Blazers have top 10 schedules according to Sagarin.
So, a decent record after an early schedule and ZBo being hurt and out shows Memphis to be a better team than their record shows.
We are ahead of last year’s pace and our strength of schedule has been Hulkish. I think this bodes well for us; I think the team is playing well but can still play even better. The rankings now are cool, but I’m more interested in the fact that the team is playing with decent effort and execution at this point.
Rankings for this week, please!!
