Memphis is on a four game winning streak and is heavily favored to reach five games against Detroit. The Grizzlies have been powered by Marc Gasol in the middle, who is making a strong case for an All-Star game appearance this season, and Rudy Gay in the open court. The Grizzlies last won five games in a row about a year ago. That streak also enabled the Grizzlies to pull above .500 for the season.
The Grizzlies are hoping to continue their streak of fast starts. In fact the Grizzlies haven’t trailed in a game since the 7:12 mark of the 2nd quarter against New Orleans on Saturday, Jan 14th. Mike Conley came up big recently, as he recovers from his sprained ankle, and O J Mayo is on a hot streak as well hitting over 46% of his three point attempts in the month of January. Newly acquired PF Marreese Speights has been getting adjusted to the Grizzlies way of playing and is fitting in rather nicely.
Detroit has struggled lately including losing a 16 point first half lead in falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday night. The Pistons, losers of three straight games, are looking to avoid their first five game home losing streak since March of 2010. The Pistons have also lost 9 of their last 10 games and will attempt to use the home court to turn things around.
The Pistons have struggled to score this season averaging a mere 85 ppg. The Pistons will look to change that without the help of Rodney Stuckey, Charlie Villanueva and Will Bynum who are all expected to miss the game due to injury. Tayshaun Prince has been red-hot lately as has Ben Gordon so if the other Pistons can chip in just a big the Pistons should be able to get some points on the board tonight. Greg Monroe is one of only 4 NBA players averaging 14.0 points and 3.5 offensive boards.
Prediction: Grizzlies win easy
