Memphis Grizzlies 90 Final
Recap | Box Score
86 Minnesota Timberwolves
Rudy Gay, SF 7-17 FG | 4-4 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 19 PTS | +7

Rudy has really picked up the rebounding slack with Zach out of the lineup — and this year as a whole. He’s averaging over 8 boards a game after posting a career high of 6.2 rpg last year. That’s huge — and much needed. Solid defense by him tonight, too.

Dante Cunningham, F 1-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 2 PTS | +5

Dante has been asked to fill impossibly big shoes. He’s not capable of replacing Z-Bo, but at least he’s not making people call for a search party to see what Stromile Swift is doing these days.

Marc Gasol, C 3-11 FG | 0-2 FT | 10 REB | 3 AST | 6 PTS | +9

Marc picked up two early fouls and his shot wasn’t falling like it normally does, but I’m still not sure why he played 41 minutes in last night’s blowout, but only 34 minutes in tonight’s nail-biter.

Tony Allen, SG 8-8 FG | 4-4 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 20 PTS | +5

After missing more than a few layups in the win last night, TA tweeted that he was going to work on them. He must be a quick study because he didn’t miss a single shot tonight while playing his usual stifling defense. Player of the game in my estimation.

Mike Conley, PG 3-13 FG | 6-6 FT | 3 REB | 8 AST | 12 PTS | +13

Conley followed up his return to action last night with another solid performance in this game. His shot wasn’t falling, but he made plenty of other plays, including playing some good defense on Luke Ridnour.

Sam Young, SF 3-6 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 8 PTS | -8

Young had a solid, if unspectacular night and actually manage to match up well with Kevin Love on a few occasions, which was surprising to me, to say the least. Continues to do whatever is asked of him — which means playing undersized PF for the time being.

Jeremy Pargo, PG 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 4 PTS | -9

Pargo didn’t adjust back to his bench role quite like one would have hoped. But, when matched up with wunderkind Ricky Rubio, a lot of backup PGs look less than stellar. The offense just didn’t look very crisp when he was in tonight.

Josh Davis, PF 2-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 5 PTS | -3

He grabbed 5 boards in 13 minutes and actually hit one of those questionable three-pointers he seems to favor, so we’ll call it a win for him.

O.J. Mayo, SG 4-9 FG | 5-7 FT | 4 REB | 2 AST | 14 PTS | -1

Uh-oh. If O.J. keeps on acting like he actually wants to score, he might find that he likes it. Another solid outing by Mayo.

Stats to note:
.840 FT% (21/25)
13 steals
+12 points in the paint
+7 turnover margin

One Response to Grizzlies Outlast T’Wolves

The second team was really a disaster tonight … Here’s hoping that this is just because they were playing a great Wolves second team and is not a sign of things to come, b/c we’re really going to need them on future back-to-backs.
