Post O.J. Mayo suffers shooting hand injury

According to ESPNDallas.com, Mayo suffered a cut on his shooting hand after falling down some stairs during their trip to Barcelona last week. He isn't expected to miss any significant time, but did go 0-7 against FC Barcelona Regal in a Dallas loss that night.

Although I was never a big fan of Mayo's particular brand of play during his time in college or while with the Grizzlies, I certainly don't wish any ill will on him now that he's in Dallas.

With his injury, as well as the minor injury to Roddy Beaubois's ankle and the lingering concerns over Dirk Nowitzki's knee, there are a lot of question marks surrounding this Dallas Mavericks team as they prepare to open the season. Given the defections of important players the past two offseasons (Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Tyson Chandler), you have to expect them to suffer a bit of a slide, right?

When Tyson left, the chance of repeating left. They just don't have it defensively inside. Replacing terry with Mayo is a downgrade of some significance as well-OJ is a good player, no doubt, but his abilites are not on a level with Terry's.

I think Mayo will be given every opportunity to succeed but not as a PG. Darren Collison will be the starting PG with Mayo competing with Vince Carter for minutes at SG. How well he responds to a permanent SG position will likely determine his success in Dallas.
