Post Who Should the Grizzlies Move?

The Grizzlies have three players with big contracts. Can they win it all with this lineup or should they make a move to bring in a crunch time stud to help them in the playoffs?

I believe they need the type of player who can take over the offense at the end of games. The type of player who can get the ball after a basket, beat his man off the dribble, hit a basket, make a pass or get to the FT line every time. To get that type of player you have to give up some value.

Who should the Grizzlies shop around to get that type of player?

Hard to say. I still think that Rudy's productivity is reflective of poor utilization; hopefully Hollinger's advanced statistical analysis will help us better utilize him and we can see his productivity rise significantly in the context of the team concept that we already have going. I just don't really see anybody out there that is going to give us that bump that we need. ZBo is more to Memphis than just his on court presence too, so the most likely candidate would be Rudy, but who really puts you over the top?

Learning of Rudy's grand-mother being sick somewhat deflects the criticism he's received this season. However, with the big four taking all of the Grizzlies salary cap money it makes it difficult to imagine the front office isn't looking to move someone and Rudy is clearly not earning his pay right now.

I don't know if I think anyone should be moved, but Rudy is the one they'll try to move if they decide that this team ain't gonna get it done. As I recall, Hollinger was never a huge Rudy fan (I could be very wrong about that, though), so that likely doesn't help his cause as far as staying here, if he even wants to.

No way the team trades ZBo or Gasol. Bottom line. They'd be nuts to do that, and won't. Those guys are rocks (ZBo's disappearance vs. the Celts notwithstanding).
Conley? not likely, as Hollins would likely wind up in a straitjacket if his Chosen One was traded. Good player on a decent deal, though....

Agreed with Chip that Rudy's then-impending and now-sadly-come-to-pass loss of his grandmother cannot be discounted regarding his focus this season.

Most likely it would be Rudy because he probably has the most value and the most potential to flourish in a system that featured him, thus the most value, but who out there is worth the type of value that we need? Who is an obvious upgrade? It would be tough with our current offensive woes to gamble on dealing our best offensive player without some near guarantee of a step up.

Rumors are again swirling that the Grizzlies front office is about to trade off one or more of their higher priced players in a salary dump. Didn't believe it when it first started weeks ago and I don't believe it now. If a roster move is made, and I am sure the team is talking to everyone who will take their calls, then it will be in an attempt to strengthen the team with cutting salary secondary to that ultimate goal. Hollinger told me a week or so again the team would be willing to add salary if they felt such a move would put them over the top. He has not misled me yet so I won't start calling him out now because Adrian Woj at Yahoo thinks otherwise.
