Are the Grizzlies for real or just pretenders?

That is the question going around the city and the league right now. The Grizzlies opened the season going 12-2 in October and November including big wins over the Heat, Thunder and Knicks all in the same week. Then came the 7-7 month of December where the Grizzlies lost to the Hawks, Suns and Nuggets in succession and blew double digit 2nd half leads in a few other games.

So which one is it? Are the Grizzlies the elite team we saw in November or are they the middle of the pack team we saw in December?

I'd say the Grizzlies are for real. Sure they were riding a hot streak when they beat all of those top teams, but all it takes is a hot streak at the right time of year to get to the top. Of course, the playoffs are a grueling run, but given the way the team has played at its apex, I have no reason to believe that there is any team in the league that we cannot beat. What it will come down to is Lionel's ability to make adjustments over the course of a 4-7 game series. Our tendencies are very easy for opposing teams to learn and adjust to, which I believe has been a big factor in the Grizzlies being ousted in game 7's for two consecutive years. The defense that our team possesses is top notch. If they can figure out a way to cut down on the offensive stagnation, score on some more assisted/easy buckets (20th in the league) and become a tad less reliant on isos, which are bound to fail you every now and again, the sky is the limit.
