Post Nasty Grizz?

One thing I noticed last night was that the team in general, and particularly Rudy and Zach, seemed . . . well, they seemed kind of pissed off. Maybe it was just that they were playing the hated Clippers or whatever, but I was just noticing that Rudy wasn't just diving on loose balls (like he's supposed to), he was doing it with kind of a nasty attitude (and I mean that in a good way). The whole team seemed to have an edge to their play . . . made me think of the Bad Boys from Detroit.

Now I'm of a mind that if this is a new facet of the Grizz identity -- not just tough, not just grit & grind, but both of those with a healthy "eff you" attitude -- well, to tell you the truth, I'm kinda pumped. If last night was a trend, and not just a fluke, I could see headlines about how nobody likes the Grizz.

To be clear, I don't want them to play dirty. Don't want them to try to hurt guys. But if they can keep that nasty edge for most of the season (particularly Rudy), I think it will pay dividends. What do you think?

Agreed. Aside from the moments where Randolph could be seen laughing with Marc, he was mean muggin' all night long. I liked it to an extent. We need to play with a tougher edge more consistently.

That said, I also agree with the caveat. He didn't need to body-slam Blake when he landed on his foot, for example. There's a fine line between playing nasty and making yourself susceptible to a bad rep with the refs. It's Grit n' Grind, not Grit n' Grime.

I think that's something that has definitely been missing from this team's makeup for awhile -- and it is a welcome change. Saw more of the same last night against GS where the Grizz just did what was necessary to get to loose balls, fight through screens, get rebounds, etc. Great teams always seem to have that mentality -- and it can often carry them through games where other things aren't going right.

I couldn't agree more. Seeing Rudy banging down low for rebounds and posting up SFs is encouraging. Conley needs to get a big meaner as does the bench but I expect Darrell Arthur's return soon should help in that regard.

This Team still has some issues to work out. Despite Zack putting up great rebounding numbers he has one of the lowest efficiency ratings in the NBA. A large percentage of his rebounds come off his own misses. His inability to defend well is also hurting the Team. He is a very smart player when it comes to putting himself in a position to make the play but his lack of leaping ability gets him in trouble more often than not. Moe Speights is a very good PF and has a much higher efficiency rating and gets back better on defense. If I were the GM, I think I would start to explore some trade options for a younger PF, a big shooting guard and draft picks that would also make us younger and take care of our Salary Cap problem while he still has good value. I know this would not set well with most fans but this is a business and the decision would not only help us now with the right deal, but would insure our ability to have cap space to make any necessary deal we need to make at the trade deadline for our Championship run. Timing is everything here and if you think too long you most always think wrong.

The other thing I noticed during the Warriors game was the fact that Rudy seemed to make it his business to try and punk the rookie Barnes. I like that. We need more of that. If Conley could get some of that and break a few ankles not because he's showing out, but because he can without disrupting the offense and because it is a boost to the team and crowd morale while demoralizing the opponent, that would be the business! LOL.

Talk about making a topic seem silly quick, J R Smith is now calling the Grizzlies fake tough guys and using our backup PG as an example!

Yep, JR Smith pulled some pretty typical JR Smith stuff during as well as after the game. He was jackin' shots from all over the place, and did nothing to make any of us think that the Knicks are not going to be implosion-prone. Interesting too that Alan Hahn made remarks to the effect that "the Knicks can't wait to see the Griz again-rivalry in the making?".

same thing the Thunder said, same thing the Heat said, etc...the Griz are just in a groove. They'll not stay in it forever, and will hit a rough patch sometime this season-but they're just, to put it bluntly, ticking off everyone they play.

JR Smith was the one who left the game a bloody, beat up loser. I'm just wondering why somebody on the same team with Carmello would bring up the topic of "fake tough guys"? Is calling out people on Twitter the new gangsta ish? :x
