Post Grizzlies Biggest Weakness Thus Far?

A couple potential issues:

-THE DANG BENCH, AGAIN. Ellington has disappeared completely on offense (although he's not been the defensive liability that we might have expected he'd be), Speights has been in a slump for a while now, Arthur, while still DA, is having to find his feet. Pondexter has been tremendous of late, but he's suffered some subpar games too. Bayless has been worlds better than Pargo or Selby, but has not quite located himself within the system.

-turnovers. When the Grizzlies turn it over, they don't play around.

-playing down to the competition. DET, PHX, NOH. Perhaps they are good enough and confident enough to idle the engine until crunch time hits, but that's not a good habit, even for an elite team.

Any particular factors make anyone else's BP shoot through the roof?

The bench has been the biggest drag. Bayless is playing scared to make a mistake rather than aggressive. Ellington struggles to get his perimeter shot off because it takes so long for him to shoot. He can be open when he gets the pass but by the time he gets his shot off he's covered. Speights' shooting woes can be explained by his sporadic minutes but his minutes have been sporadic because his defense has been terrible. He looks confused by the defensive sets. Haddadi, Selby and Wroten have been missing all season which has to make you wonder what's happening in practice that they can't find minutes in a game.

Until the bench starts playing as a unit instead of a collection of individuals the team will struggle to find consistency.

Honestly I think our biggest weakness is our lack of veterans. Particularly on the bench, they're all either still on, or fresh off rookie deals, and don't have the poise of a veteran crew.

Zach and Tony are our only guys older than 27 (and Tony can play like a loose cannon), so we really don't have any "I've been there" type guys to stop the bleeding when things get out of hand. I'm seeing it right in front of me here, with Jason Kidd's impact on the Knicks. Obviously he's an extreme case as a locked-in future Hall of Famer, but I think that this is a flaw in our roster that's going to continue to hurt us considerably come playoff time. Granted, I cannot really propose a solution given the state of our flexibility, but I see it as a problem nonetheless.

As for the playing down to the competition, this is infuriating and scary. My biggest fear with the team is that maybe it's not that they're playing down, but rather that they play above their par and overachieve when they face big time opponents. Which is cool and all, but in the playoffs everyone is going to bring it, not just us. Of course, this is just a fear and for the time being I believe it to be nothing more than that, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't worry me.
