What will people be most upset about: the Grizzlies gave up the rights to Ricky Sanchez, received a big man instead of a shooter or that they used a TE for such a lousy prospect?

Haha, I'm going to have to air on the side of the latter, but what exactly could people have expected to get out of the Sam young exception? I'm pretty darn happy with the yield. Another pick in the second round, which can go towards a number of things, and a space eater to spell Marc against big teams. All for a weak trade exception that would have otherwise simply fallen off without affording us any utility. Now, we can instead save our larger exceptions for something better.

Essentially we turned an asset that was going bad for some assets that have (if limited) value.

What did the Grizzlies get? A guy who loves to throw a forearm into to people because he can't guard them?! Is he really a serviceable big? At least HH could come in and play a reasonable game for 5 mins or so to relieve Marc. Will big Derrick Pittman produce while on the court, if and when he makes it to the court? I do doubt that this is a addition that will make the Grizzlies better in any way. I hope that I'm wrong, but Pittman has not shown that he is an NBA quality player.

I don't put as much stock in the PER for a player who has averaged less than 8 mins per game for his career and only 3 MPG for this year. I just don't think it is enough mins to show his real playing contributions or faults.

I don't really think this move matters much. If he takes minutes from Ed Davis (depending on matchup), I will march on the Forum with lit torch in hand

Lol, yeah the guy's played a total of 4 games. In his rookie year, his PER was -6. But I do think there is some merit to having another wide body to drain the opposition. Just not much.

Sam Young's TE expires on March 15; before the trade window re-opens.

No matter what one thinks of Pittman or the very real possibility that the draft pick will be the very last selection made, it is infinitely more than Mgt could have gotten with that same asset at 3:01pm. The Griz brass used a coupon that was about to expire to buy a Powerball ticket and a scratch-off that they know will probably amount to nothing, but didn't really cost them anything either (unless you have a high opinion of Ricky Sanchez).
