The Memphis Grizzlies take on the New Orleans Hornets Wednesday night in the final tune-up for both teams of the preseason.
This game will be different from the last game as both teams starting lineup are expected to play their starting lineups for at least half the game. In the previous matchup, a 97-90 win for the Hornets, both teams were playing without important pieces.
The Grizzlies played without Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Sam Young and Darrell Arthur. Arthur is likely lost for the season with an achilles injury. New Orleans played without newly acquired players Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman and Al-Farouq Aminu. Those players were acquired in the trade that sent Chris Paul to the Clippers.
Both teams have to answer significant questions before the start of the season.
For Memphis, the question is who backs up Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph? With Darrell Arthur out and Hamed Haddadi not in camp yet the job seems to be falling on the shoulders of Josh Davis and Brian Skinner but rumors are circling that the Grizzlies are in the market for other options on their front line.
For the Hornets, the question is who will step up to replace Chris Paul. Eric Gordon has shown the ability to score at will, but that isn’t the same thing as leading a team. Jarrett Jack is a solid NBA veteran but hasn’t been able to hold a starting job suggesting something is missing from his game as well. Until a leader is found it is expected that New Orleans will struggle to put the talent together into a team.
