Chuck Hayes Is Available
My heart sunk a bit when Chuck Hayes, who played for Houston last season, signed a deal with the Sacramento Kings. Here’s some screwy NBA math that shouldn’t add up but does:
Chuck Hayes is 6’6″.
Chuck Hayes plays CENTER.
Granted, Center is not an ideal position for a 6’6″ guy, but look at his numbers: Last season, he started 63 games, played in 74. Averaged 8 ppg/8 rpg in 27 minutes a night. The year before (09-10), he STARTED all 82 games. AT CENTER. This was the year Yao was lost for the whole season. They finished just over .500 that year.
If you watched Chuck Hayes play for Houston, you understand how he does it. Draws charges. Doesn’t give up on plays. Good passer. Plays defense. He could win a Memphis Grizzlies award for “Most Grit & Grind Player Not Playing at FedEx Forum.”
So even though my heart sunk when he signed with the Kings, it sunk even more when the Kings voided his contract because he failed the physical, apparently with heart issues. Obviously wanted him to be healthy and, you know, LIVE — even if he couldn’t play basketball anymore.
Well guess what: Hayes’ doctors are saying he CAN play basketball. They’ve cleared him to play with NO issues whatsoever.
Don’t know if he’ll be asking for the same 4 year/$21 million he got in Sacto. My hunch is that he’ll now have to negotiate contracts under the shadow of failing that physical, which might mean he can be had for less. But if I’m Chris Wallace, I’m calling Hayes’ agent. STAT.
What do you think, fans? Would Chuck Hayes fit with the Grizz? Could he fill in for Darrell and back up Marc? Post below . . .

I always enjoyed watching chuck work his magic in Houston but he was made to play for Memphis with his style and our needs
yes yes yes we can go a long way wuth chuck hayes playing for my griz and we need him since d arthur wont b returning…and we do not need to give up vasquez
This guy would be an instant fan favorite in Memphis. His hustle is the kind of play that we support and he would fit in perfectly!! Get it done!!
Yes. Perfect fit.
shoot lets call Chris Wallace and we can get Chuck’s agent on 3-way
This guy would be great for Memphis basketball. Help out Randolph and Gasol and add’s another demension. We NEED him in Memphis. We love our basketball and I think we would love it even more if he lands in Memphis!!!
The Grizzlies apparently pulled the qualifying offer on Hamed Haddadi today. That could mean the Grizzlies are attempting to free up cap space to go after someone else or that the Grizzlies plan on re-signing Haddadi at a lower price tag.
grizz just pulled an offer from hamed so……you know
apparently Hayes is relocked up with the kings – missed opportunity there

Chuck Hayes would have been a perfect fit. Too bad. we need one of the denver centers. Timofey Mozgov or Kosta Koufos, both of whom just needs the right opportunity. Tim could be the defensive presents we need. Kosta shows promise offensively.
What about picking up Antonio McDyess? Just retired from Spurs, but still effective in limited minutes. We would still need someone to pick up the majority of the backup PF/C minutes, but he could take Hadaddi’s role and expand it some
He would be a very good fit, but I don’t know that his price tag, even re-negotiated, would fit. I heard also that Sac is planning on resigning him at a little higher salary.
