One Down, But One Up. Grizzlies Split Back-to-Back.

By HPTMatt On February 21, 2012 · 12 Comments · In Uncategorized

How often does it happen that a team seems to play better as a unit during a loss than in a win?

Well, it seemed to happen over this pair.

Two grinders, one loss, one win.

Couple  thoughts on a couple players, couple superb performances, and one VERY COOL stretch in the Philly game….

Grizzlies WIN, But What of All Our Fingernails?

By HPTMatt On January 31, 2012 · 2 Comments · In Uncategorized

Looks like that players-only meeting I predicted after last night’s abortive effort happened and worked to a degree.

Yep. My systolic is probably a bit high, and my fingers have no nails left.

But SO WHAT, the Griz got out of the losing streak-vortex in which they’d been trapped.

It was by no means the Griz’ best game of the season (and we’ll find out why in a bit), but there were many great things about it…let’s run it down [...]

Grizzlies Smearate Kings, Longest Win Streak Since 2006!

By HPTMatt On January 21, 2012 · 6 Comments · In Uncategorized

Yes, I used the word “smearate”. As in “the Kings faced a total smearation in that third quarter”.

I can’t call it a perfect game (reason why in a little bit), but “buzzsaw” is just not an overstatement of how our Griz are playing right now.

Same old guys making the game? Sure. But it’s not *just* the usual suspects….

Grizzlies ONCE AGAIN Allow Comeback…But Win. Again.

By HPTMatt On January 20, 2012 · 4 Comments · In Uncategorized

Yeaahhh, now. Five in a row. But…things still aren’t just exactly perfect.

Or should that be “five in a row, even though things still aren’t just exactly perfect”?

Glass is half full. Grizzlies are still improving, and when things get exactly perfect (that’d be when ZBo comes back, for those who wonder when that zenith might be reached), this team will be as good as last year’s, if not better.

As I said, ONCE AGAIN, the Grizzlies jumped to a [...]

Well, the Grizzlies Put Up a Fight, But….Lakers Prevail

By HPTMatt On January 8, 2012 · 1 Comment · In Uncategorized

…The Griz just couldn’t get it done against such a bunch of giants. A couple of nice second-half runs were met with threes, bunches of scoring by the best basketball player in the world (no, I don’t mean Derek Fisher), and Marc Gasol’s inability to throw a golf ball into a swimming pool from the diving board.

Several interesting things, though, about this game. Just what were they?

Breaking: Xavier Henry out, Mareese Speights In!!!

By Lee Eric Smith On January 4, 2012 · 6 Comments · In Uncategorized

ESPN’s Marc Stein tweeted minutes ago that the Grizzlies are in a three way trade with New Orleans and Philadelphia that would send Xavier Henry to New Orleans, two draft picks to Philadelphia and bring Mareese Speights to Beale St.

More later as this story develops, but quick reax: WOW!

Clears up the logjam on the wings a bit with a promising but unproven Xavier Henry. Better yet, it gives us that much needed backup center, and if the [...]

Grizzlies Soundly Defeat Largely Disinterested Kings

By HPTMatt On January 3, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Uncategorized

First-RIP to Gene Bartow, who passed away this day after a battle with stomach cancer. Bartow was a man who meant an immeasurable amount to basketball-all over the US, but especially here in our corner of the south. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Now, on to the game. I’d love to say that the Griz took this game by the horns and played like we know they can play…which they sorta did some of the [...]

Grizzlies Get It Together…Almost…But Lose to Thunder

By HPTMatt On December 28, 2011 · 5 Comments · In Uncategorized

Well, that was better. Still not great, but better. I’ve got a few thoughts about a couple things, but first, as I am wont to do, I will lay out an analogy.

This game reminded me of….

Hornets At Grizzlies: Cobwebs, Dust, and Basketball

By HPTMatt On December 16, 2011 · 1 Comment · In Uncategorized

Well, (insert long national nightmare joke here). Not “real” NBA ball yet, but it’s a start.

A few no-names,  one BIG name finally back in action , and some NBA BASKETBALL. Glorious, glorious, NBA basketball.

A game of no significance, but still a game. How’d our Griz look out of the delayed gate?

3 on 3: The Maximum Line

By Chip Crain On December 16, 2011 · 3 Comments · In Dec.2011, Uncategorized

Well the Grizzlies have finally signed Marc Gasol to his near maximum contract of 4 years and a reported $58 million dollars. This gives the Grizzlies a front line of players being paid at the top of their potential earnings with Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.

The question facing 3 Shades of Blue is what has that bought the Grizzlies?
