Power Rankings – week of Feb 20

By CarlCR On February 21, 2012 · 3 Comments · In February 2012

Grizzlies were the “high jump of the week team” @NBA.  I like Eric Pincus comment @hoopsworld “The Grizzlies are fighting. That’s what they do.”  A couple of these guys are projecting the Grizzlies to be a tough playoff team.  Worst comment of the week from Matt Moore @CBS.

Britt Robson @SI  hands out midseason grades that reflect teams’ performance since the season began instead of doing the regular Power Rankings.  I’ve left the order of his ranking the same as last week and [...]

Power Rankings – Week of Feb. 13

By CarlCR On February 14, 2012 · 5 Comments · In February 2012

Sam Amico’s (@Fox) question is, will O.J. Mayo still be on team after March 15?  Lots of comments about the TAM uniforms.  Some critical works about Rudy by Robson @SI.

*Note: Tom Ziller @ SBNation changed the way he rated this week to the lovability of a team.  It wasn’t really worth posting, but what the heck it is Valentine’s Day.  SBNation says the Grizz’ marketing department is brilliant.

Average ranking for the week is 17.62 (not including actual standings and SBNation).  Some may notice [...]

Power Rankings – week of Feb 6

Would you believe that the Grizzlies actually went up in the two rankings?  Matt Moore @CBS starts his comment with something every Grizzlies’ fan understands, “The Grizzlies are infuriating to watch on a consistent basis…”

These guys don’t know where to rank the Orlando Magic.  They are ranked as high as 7th (Hoopsworld) and as low as 19th (Hollinger). Britt Robson @SI observes that the old-age teams of Boston and San Antonio were thought to suffer under the grueling short-season, but not so.  The [...]

Updated Power Rankings, Jan. 30 week

(Updated Covers and also Sagarin and Hollinger.) As Expected the Grizzlies fell in every ranking, which is the result of losing 4 in a row, especially since one was to the Suns.  Britt Robson at SI accurately pinpointed the problem. “they’ve careened to four straight losses, a span in which their largest lead was five points, they shot 38 percent and played from behind 90 percent of the time.”  They saved face with the win over Denver who are ranked in [...]

Schuhmann @ NBA.com says that the Grizzlies are the Hero Team of the Week, but with a disclaimer.  Marc Gasol received several accolades for his outstanding by several of these writers including player of the week.  Lets just hope it results in being selected as an All-Star.  Have you voted?  Do it now!  The biggest jump comes from Matt Moore @ CBSSports.COM.  I saw this last week but avoided commenting, but those [...]

Updated Power Rankings – week of Jan 16

By CarlCR On January 19, 2012 · 5 Comments · In January 2012

(Covers updated) Not so amazing but 3 wins in a row and over the Bulls and Knicks saw a good jump in the rankings for the Grizzlies [the level of jump indicated for each]. But, 4 of the rankings were done before the Griz beat the Bulls and it is reflected by the jump level.  Who gets the credit for Memphis’ success?  Britt Robson @ SI gives kudos to the coach, “Hollins has help transform the Grizzlies into one of the [...]

Power Rankings – week of Jan. 9

By CarlCR On January 11, 2012 · 2 Comments · In January 2012

Which Grizzlies fan is not disappointed with at 3-6 start to the season?  Those who rank the NBA are also disappointed.  Stein at ESPN says the Grizzlies should be humbled.  Sam Amico at Fox has this probing opinion ”It’s very early, but something seems not quite right here after last year‘s playoff fun. And it goes beyond just Zach Randolph being hurt.”

Memphis could/should win 5 or 6 of their next 7 games: NY Knicks (H, W-L?), New Orleans (H, Win), Chicago (H, Lose), New [...]

Power Rankings – week of Jan 2

You probably don’t want to see how the Grizzlies have tumbled in the rankings. As John Schuhmann @ NBA.com wrote, “after Dallas, the Grizzlies are the most disappointing team in the league thus far.”  The win over the Kings, even without Zach is hopefully a good sign that the Grizzlies are playing better together as a team.  However, if they don’t stop the 3-point shooting, it will be hard to win consistently against teams that have the good 3-point shooters.

Preseason Power Rankings

By CarlCR On December 22, 2011 · 3 Comments · In Dec.2011

The preseason rankings are favorable to the Grizzlies.  Most think that they are one of the top 10 teams.  It will be interesting how they start the season as we haven’t seen the full starting line up on the floor in the two pre-season games.  Hopefully, Marc will be ready to play and the starting 5 will play well.  The subs are yet to really show they can play well. Coach Hollins has a lot of work to do I [...]

By CarlCR On December 9, 2011 · 2 Comments · In Dec.2011

Here is your chance to predict where the Grizzlies will start in the pre-season rankings.

Guess what their average will be and what their high and low ranking will be.  The last power ranking of last season (before the playoffs started) had the Grizzlies at a high of … Well, below you can see for yourself how the Grizzlies ended up.

I predict that the High Ranking will be 8, the low will be 12 and the average will be 9. [...]
