Spent some time at the final Memphis Grizzlies Pre-Draft workout and talked to Ojar Silins from Latvia. He is a 6’7 Power Forward and has been playing for Pallacanestro Reggiana in Reggio Emilia, Italy since 2010 and is now wanting to take the next step in his career and go to the NBA team.
Q: What have you learned so far in this draft process working with NBA scouts?
Silins: American basketball is kinda different basketball and more athletic and everything is done with power with a lot of attention and Europe is more team game and more how to pass better and to move around the court like more one-on-one stuff.
Q: What number work out is this for you?
Silins: This is my second and I have two more before the draft.
Q: What has this team been wanting to see from you?
Silins: They are wanting to see my shooting abilities, they want me to be a aggressive defender, be active always, and play within good team basketball.
Q: What do you feel like you can bring to this team?
Silins: Same things. First of all my shooting, I’m getting better with my defense especially one-on-one, working on being in the right position, and to make smart plays.
Q: Do you try to ignore all the mock drafts out there?
Silins: Yeah I’m an easy-going person and try to stay calm through all of this. Of course this is my dream but I can’t put too much pressure on me. I still have a lot of work to do.
Q What was your first impression of the Grizzlies when you first came here?
Silins: They have a great team with big guys Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. I like the way they play and they are really tough. Of course they are a good organization and always in the playoffs.
