It’s been a long and windy road for the Grizzlies’ summer squad, but after testing in battle against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and Houston Rockets, they have punched a ticket into the Orlando Summer League Championship game! Early this afternoon they’re set to square off against the Philadelphia 76ers squad for all the marbles.
In yesterday’s game against the Rockets, the Grizzlies were led by summer standout Jordan Adams, who returned to form as an efficient scoring machine as they compiled an 88-74 victory. Adams recovered quite nicely from his uncharacteristic 0-6 performance in the game prior, to post a rock solid 19 points on 12 shots. Unfortunately he missed his first free throw of the summer, but over the four games is proud owner of a monster free throw rate at 21-22. Speaking of rebound performances yesterday, Jamaal Franklin turned in his first offensively productive game of the summer, amassing 17 points on just 9 shots, while turning the ball over just once. In addition he pulled off a sick transition block that might already be worth a spot on the 2014-15 highlight reel. Also speaking of the word rebound, glass eating machine Jarnell Stokes couldn’t quite maintain his lead over the Orlando field for total rebounds, but managed to finish in third with exactly 9 per contest over the four game stretch.
The enemy Sixers squad for this afternoon headlines the much awaited Nerlens Noel, second year players Hollis Thompson and Casper Ware, and rookie wingmen Jerami Grant and K.J. McDaniels. Noel has not disappointed in his first swig of pro basketball action, leading the Orlando Summer League in blocked shots with 3.0 per game, while posting 2.3 steals per contest, and shooting 52.5% from the field. Today’s exhibitions will wrap up the Orlando portion of the NBA Summer League circuit, as the torch will be passed to Las Vegas — where the Grizzlies will not be participating. So with that, let’s savor this afternoon’s entertainment as the last taste of on-court Grizzly action until we make it to training camp in September.
