Thanks to our good friend, Zach Oliver of PrestoInThePaint.com, 3 Shades of Blue was able to check in with Grizzlies Head Coach Dave Joerger and rookie Jordan Adams down in Orlando.

Head Coach Dave Joerger -

Jordan Adams -

There are a couple of things that jumped out at me.

First, when Coach Joerger discussed the challenge that Jordan Adams faces in finding playing time on a veteran-heavy Grizzlies team, he mentioned Quincy Pondexter and Tayshaun Prince as obstacles (in addition to Courtney Lee and Tony Allen, of course). While QP is probably more naturally a shooting-guard, a lot of Grizzlies fans are expecting him to play a significant role at small forward during the coming season. While fans hope Prince will not play a significant role at any position, he is unquestionably a small forward. One could extrapolate (dangerous as that may be) that CDJ views Adams as a potential contributor at small forward, depending on the match up.

Also, while he has not had a particularly strong showing in Summer League, it was good to hear that Jamal Franklin is taking time to mentor the rookies. Right now some people are clamoring for Adams to find minutes in Memphis during the 2014/15 season, but the reality is that he is likely to play more minutes in Iowa next year. Franklin’s experience last year gives him a perspective which will be helpful to Adams if he starts being shuttled back-and-forth.

Thanks again to Zach Oliver for getting the audio for us. He will be in Orlando for this morning’s “championship game” and is a great twitter follow.

Stay tuned for more!
