Last 4 games. The Grizzlies look in a position to grab 8th place. Phoenix plays 3 playoff teams in their last 4 games: the Spurs, Mavs and Grizzlies. The Grizzlies play the Suns and Mavs. If the Grizzlies win both of these games plus their other two, they could grab the 7th seed.

I’d rather Memphis have the 7th seed because the 8th seed almost certainly means playing the Spurs, who seem to have the Grizzlies number. They know how to shut down our inside game.

Only 4 playoff spots left to be claimed: 1 in the East, and 3 in the West. The last team in the East to make the playoffs will be 3 to 8 teams under 500. Meanwhile, in the West, the team to miss the playoffs could be 16 to 18 games above 500.  Something stinks in the NBA playoff system.

In the event two or more teams are tied in the standings, a series of tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding.

Two-Team Tiebreaker:

1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
2. Better record in head-to-head games
3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
4. Higher winning percentage in conference games
5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
6. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference
7. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed

Three-Team Tiebreaker:

1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
2. Best head-to-head winning percentage among all teams tied
3. Highest winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
4. Highest winning percentage in conference games
5. Highest winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
6. Highest point differential between points scored and points allowed

It looks like the season could be decided by Minday night when the Grizzlies play the Suns in Phoenix.
